This is a common approach I take for metals on larger scale minis, where I have room to transition to lighter shades of metal before edge highlighting. It uses the following paints: Aqueous Steel (Mr. Hobby) Iron Warriors (Citadel) Leadbelcher (Citadel) Stormhost Silver (Citadel) Drucchi Violet (Citadel)

First up the Mr. Hobby Steel. This can go over whatever your previous base coat was the darker the better, but since we’re working mostly with a flat surface you’re unlikely to have much detail that could help with shadows.

Next up we brush on the iron warriors, leaving some of the mr hobby steel showing around the tail edges where you’d have shadow from other surfaces or in recesses on the part itself.

Similar to the last layer, leaving some of the iron warriors showing and go over it with leadbelcher. Gradually lightening the metal.

Finally we edge with stormhost silver, dabbing on rather than dragging the brush can help give a chipped and weathered look to the edges. We also want to drop a dab of stormhost onto any rivets.

Finally we remove any tape that was used to mask off the canopy glass as well as drop small amounts of drucchi into the recesses to shade. (Any wash can be used here I’m just using drucchi to provide some tie in to the rest of the mini.)
